Kinda like Rob and Laura Petrie

Sept. 21/22
I started this blog by actually posting while traveling. I’m back on the road again so it seems like a good idea to put up a post while I’m here. Still using the same old IPad and bluetooth keyboard set up, even the original components. As I mentioned to a friend, one of the benefits of lugging around what is by now the tech equivalent of a wooden wheel and steam engine is no one wants to steal it. Even left on a street table with a little sign saying “please”.

Anyway, it is 2 years since the last visit and right now I’m sitting on my bed with the window open, listening to the Paris metro just outside. The hotel is on Rue Garibaldi and there is an Eiffel tower glimpse: see, it’s that pointy bit sticking up behind the apartments on the other side of the elevated section of the No. 6 line. Having a metro line across the street is not that bad because they’re on rubber tires so they move along smoothly without the rattle, screech and roar of New York’s subway cars. Mind you my only exposure so far has been a short nap after 24 hours of the sleep deprivation that is trans-continental/trans-Atlantic travel.

I’m still in the ‘I love Paris’ stage. I don’t think I’ve ever been out of that stage but this is the first day back after time away. You know, that ‘here’s your martini and slippers, darling, how was work, ravish me here in the doorway, I don’t care what the neighbors think’ kind of early 1960’s romantic comedy feeling.

May be it’s just sleep deprivation and jet lag. My stomach is still somewhere over the mid-Atlantic and that’s about where I last had more than 15 minutes sleep. I’ll know better tomorrow but right now it’s time to find crepes.
