What’s it all about Alfie?

Why a second blog? I already have a narrative essay style general blog, Sudden Alarm of Donkeys but this is about travelling through the world in the real-time space continuum. There are a lot of travel blogs cluttering up the inter-weebs these days so I don’t know what will make this one different to anyone except myself, friends and family members. Honestly, do I need to justify it beyond that?

Not really. And keep in mind I always welcome new friends.

The blog name, for those of you that didn’t notice immediately, comes from one of my favorite Shakespearean speeches:

Sweet are the uses of adversity,
Which, like the toad, ugly and venomous,
Wears yet a precious jewel in his head;
And this our life, exempt from public haunt,
Finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks,
Sermons in stones, and good in every thing.

As You Like It, Act II/scene 1/12-17

  1. Lady Jane got her head cut off up there as I remember – how dare she have thought she could oust Lizzie! Ironic the crown went to Scotland with James in the end…..hope you are having a blast and I love to hear about friend’s journeys as I hope they do of mine…

    1. i think you meant to say Mary, Queen of Scots – she was lured down from Scotland to Castle Fotheringay and the chopping (not a neat job of it either, took a couple of attempts before the axe finally hit her neck clean through) were done there. Her claim went a bit further back up the Tudor lineage to Mary of Guise…or something like that, a fairly powerful and influential woman in her day.
      Lady Jane was actually QE1’s cousin directly through Henry’s sister Mary Tudor. But that is another story…
      Thanks for commenting, Em, and we’ll see you soon in Liverpool!
